I found this at Abernyte Antiques. The image is so odd I thought it was a photograph of a museum display!It's actually a production photograph from a play by Lady Gregory called The Workhouse Ward.
I was delighted to read the costume notes in the message, Leila went to great lengths to create a believable character, such a good find.
It reads -
April 22nd 1934
So many thanks for yr (sic) most interesting letter. I will write very soon.
I am sending Observer to you.
Do you recognise Leila. She acted in "The Workhouse Ward"
Shawl etc sent over from Ireland. She looks real Irish doesn't she.
